With nearly 30 years in the Air Force on 10 different assignments, Colonel (retired) Ron Yakkel has a deep understanding of the fundamental and advanced Air Force principles that lead to a successful career. He has now taken that military foundation and translated it into a civilian capacity as an Instructor of Security Cooperation and the Regional Seminar Director for the Indo-Asia Pacific Region at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.
It would be an understatement to say that I'm lucky to have known Colonel Yakkel for quite literally my entire life, as he happens to be my mother's brother. That's right, the man who many have saluted as their ranking officer has always been "Uncle Ron" to me. So this episode was a real treat for me to be able to dive into some of the specific military principles that millennials can apply to their own lives to achieve massive success.
In this episode, Ron discusses the Air Force's Core Values and how anyone can incorporate them into their lives. We cover A LOT of great advice in this one, including:
- Importance of a positive outlook on life
- How a millennial can become a better leader
- Don't be afraid to take advantage of opportunities
- 4 things that will get you fired
- The learning never stops
- Don't be afraid to make a decision
- Do the important stuff first
- Finding balance with your work and family life
- Creating "tie down" straps in your life
