In this podcast, that coordination is created between you, our amazing guests, and Brad. Our definite purpose is achieving extraordinary results in your business and in your life. Welcome to the Millennial Mastermind. Keith Ferrazzi is the New York Times Best Selling Author of Never Eat Alone and Who's Got Your Back.

Keith grew up as the son of a lower-class factory worker and cleaning lady in Pittsburgh.  With the help of the relationships he forged along the way, he managed to get into Yale, and later, Harvard Business School.  Again on the back of key relationships, he worked his way up in Deloitte from an entry-level analyst to the Chief Marketing Officer before the age of 30.  At age 32, he was hired by Starwood Hotels (a Fortune 500 company) as their CMO. In 2000, he left Starwood to found YaYa Media, an entertainment and marketing company, which he sold to an investment company in 2003.  He currently sits as the CEO of Ferrazzi Greenlight.

Keith is considered one of the world's foremost experts in networking and relationship building.  In my conversation with Kieth, he distinguishes the two.  Where networking typically comes across as a transactional activity that is a necessary evil, Keith focuses on relationship building.  Keith explains that from a collection of thriving relationships will come a world class network.

To build these thriving relationships, Keith explains that we need to first start with gratitude to open the door for a future relationship.  Once you've expressed your gratitude to that person and aligned yourself with their mission, lean on research and thoughtfulness to figure out how you can be of service.  The more service you give, the stronger the relationship will grow.

Keith also offers us an actual game plan to build a network of amazing relationships.  He calls this the Relationship Action Plan.  In summary:
  • Focus - What are your goals?
  • Target - Write down names of individuals who are critical to what you are trying to achieve.
  • Define - What you can do for them?
  • Outreach - Come up with a cadence for reaching out to these individuals.
  • Align - Develop a network of individuals who will help you connect with others.  These "lifeline relationships" are those who are going to share their network richly with you, and vise-versa.
  • Renew - Your goals change, therefore your network needs to stay up to date.

Let me know your best tips for building relationships in the comments or in a review on iTunes.

Have you ever caught yourself daydreaming about quitting your job and jetting off to explore another part of the world?  If so, you certainly aren't alone.  You also aren't alone if you've had that thought, but never followed up on it.  Perhaps the next day, you find yourself in the same job, with the same daydreams.

Today's guest had that same daydream but didn't take the conventional route of dismissing it as wishful thinking.  Rather, he took action and pursued the dream most of us forgo.

Elisha Shannon didn't let a "great" job at Apple stand in the way of his dreams.  Instead, he quit his job, peaced out to Europe, and started a YouTube channel that would ultimately present opportunities he never thought possible.  Did I mention he did this all in under a year?

Listen to the full episode to hear how this all came to be, and how you can transform your life to match your dreams.

What daydreams are you writing off?  Let's see if we can't turn those dreams into reality.

How can I really use LinkedIn to grow my network or business?

If you're anything like me, you've pondered that question before.  Many of us create LinkedIn profiles in college with the hope that it might help us land an internship or job after graduation.  We connect with all of our friends, colleagues, and business connections.  Maybe we've even used it as a tool to try to find potential customers or individuals we want to add to our network.

But with 500 million users, doesn't it seem like there are better ways to take advantage of this professional platform?  To answer that questions, I invited Jimena Cortes onto the show.  Jimena is a marketing consultant specializing in LinkedIn lead generation. She is a published author, international speaker, entrepreneur and the founder of Wizard Media and Linked Blueprint.  Jimena has taught over 4,000 people worldwide how she gets multi-million dollar companies as her clients by using LinkedIn.  She has been mentioned on Inc.com, Entrepreneur.com, and Forbes to name a few.

In this episode, we discuss:
  • How companies can take advantage of LinkedIn
  • How individuals can leverage LinkedIn
  • How to connect with high-level contacts on the platform
  • The most common mistakes people make on LinkedIn
  • And more about how to utilize the social media giant to its fullest potential
