There's a lot of advice out there on how to build a successful start-up and business. But much of that advice is coming from individuals who are hardly qualified to give it.
That's why I talked to Warren Hogarth. Few are more qualified to share the secrets of building a successful business.
First off, Warren is the Co-Founder and CEO of a successful app called Empower, which helps entrepreneurs and side hustlers stay on top of their finances. Empower was voted one of the best 25 apps of 2017 by Time Magazine.
Additionally, before launching Empower, he spent eight years as a Partner at one of the top venture capital firms in the world, Sequoia Capital. At Sequoia, Warren was the lead investor and board member helping many entrepreneurs build companies from zero to over $1 billion. During his time at Sequoia, they invested in companies like Square, WhatsApp, Stripe, and AirBnB.
Prior to any of Warren's success in business, he moved to the US from Australia in 2004 with a degree in chemical engineering.
(Didn't see that one coming, did you?)
He faced many challenges navigating the US financial system but didn't waste any time on his journey towards success.
In this episode, Warren shares:
- How he became a venture capitalist with a degree in Chemical Engineering
- How he networked his way into one of the leading VC firms
- What venture capitalists look for in a successful business
- How he shifted gears to launch a top 25 app
- What to do in your 20's to set yourself up for long-term success
